As our Jewish friends and neighbors celebrate Hanukkah, let us remember the story of the story of the Maccabee uprising of 164BCE. In a time when the Jews near Jerusalem were ruled by a foreign power and faced pressure not to practice their faith, a group rebelled – and triumphed. This service will include a retelling of that victory as well as reflection on what this ancient story might have to teach us now. The sermon in this service will be adapted from one Rev. Rachel preached in 2019.
