Joanna McCollum Learner 1939-2025
Joanna Learner was active as a studio artist for for 65 years, 50 of which she has lived in Battle Creek.
“During my journey as an artist, I have chosen to express universal ideas and beliefs that all life is sacred, and I have spoken out for peace and human compassion in many of my works,” Learner said. “I have also focused on the incredible diversity and beauty present in our natural world and want to call attention to our responsibility to protect it from exploitation and destruction.”
“I feel that as human beings we have sort of a responsibility to speak out and kind of build awareness to the things that are going on.”
