Meet Our New Religious Education Assistant!

Rowan Jakobah (she/they) is overjoyed to join the incredible team of staff at People’s this year as the new RE Assistant! Rowan is an herbalist/plant person, facilitator, fertility awareness specialist, and sexual/reproductive health educator to people of all ages. Born to a People’s family, Rowan has been attending church on and off for 29 years, and began volunteering for the church in various roles in 2018. Since then, Rowan has helped plan several young adult cons, assisted in one 4th/5th grade OWL course, and co-facilitated Middle School OWL twice, once in 2019-20 and again in 2023-24. She is thrilled to join the Middle School OWL facilitator team again for this 2025-26 year, as well as to serve as a volunteer on the RE Committee. Outside of her work as the RE Assistant, Rowan is Mama to Leia (8), Willow (2), two pups, and a snake; Wife/Life Partner to Dakota Jakobah (Safety/Medical team, High School teacher 2025-26); daughter to Michele Richards and sister to Hazel (both regular churchgoers). In the past, you may have found Rowan serving as an educator and prescribed firefighter at the Kalamazoo Nature Center, as the coordinator for Rootead’s doula program (2021-22), or working on various local farms and teaching one-off herbalism and fertility classes around town. Don’t hesitate to introduce yourself and ask any questions you might have – Rowan is honored to serve this community!
