What are your passions? What are your talents? Do you have an hour or two to spare now and then, or are you looking for something to do on a regular basis? No matter how you answer, there’s a place for you with Green Sanctuary. Our overall purpose is to encourage a sustainable lifestyle for People’s Church members as individuals and as a faith community.
Do you like problem-solving and organizing with a small group? Consider joining the Green Sanctuary Committee (GSC). We’ve been meeting on Zoom at 4:30 pm on the third Monday of most months. The GSC is also a good place to develop ideas to recommend to the board as policies and projects.
Are you a hands-on person? You can work on projects where Green Sanctuary and Buildings and Grounds form a team. Indoors, you can help with energy-saving projects, including replacing light fixtures, insulating walls, or planning for future HVAC needs. Outdoors, you can be part of the Rain Garden team, help control invasive species, and identify other ways to manage our grounds in a more environmentally friendly way.
Are you a writer, a speaker, or an organizer? Your ideas and help are needed to write Green Spot articles for News & Views, provide brief updates for the Friday emails, organize speakers or films, or help with occasional Sunday services. We also maintain a display on one of the kiosks in the foyer.
Not everything happens on church property. You can volunteer to help with the periodic roadside clean-ups we do along 10th Street as part of being good neighbors. We work with other local faith communities through Hope for Creation, and we’re part of the Kalamazoo Climate Crisis Coalition.
