People’s People are generous. Over the last year, we have been able to raise a total almost $10,000 in our monthly Special Collections to help out so many different wonderful organizations! Thank you to everyone’s generosity!!
- September 2021: Lincoln School
- Kalamazoo Public Schools opened with in-person learning for those students who opted for that format. There was a need for help for Lincoln students and staff. Like last year, we didn’t know yet what all those needs might entail. It could be for in-person or online tutoring, or needing to do a collection drive for school supplies, snack/food supplements for families as just a few things they may need.

- October 2021: Afghan Asylum Seekers Resettlement
- Funds were used to support the families and individuals that will be arrived in the next few
weeks after the collection to help pay for food and cash assistance. Bethany Christian Services and Samaritas, the two resettlement agencies in our area, received the funds.

- November 2021: Unitarian Universalist Trauma Response Ministry
- The Unitarian Universalist Trauma Response Ministry provides timely, multilevel, culturally
sensitive spiritual care to survivors of mass disasters and other critical incidents that may lead to significant trauma. They provide resources including the deployment of critical incident stress management (CISM) teams to assist congregations and the communities they work within in the wake of mass disaster and other significant critical incidents.The UUTRM is an organization independent of the UUA that provides services free of charge to congregations in times of crisis.

- Ministry with Community is one of our traditional yearly recipients. “Empowering people to make positive life changes”, Ministry with Community is open 365 days a year. The COVID-19
pandemic has changed daily life for all of us in many ways. Despite needing to make many changes to keep everyone as safe as possible, Ministry with Community continues to be open and adapting to this new way of life, seven days a week.

- Through programs, partnerships and advocacy, Open Doors has been helping families achieve housing success since 1970. Open Doors’ programs provide a solution to the housing
crisis for low-wage working families. Open Doors says: “A home is a haven from the storms of life; the place where we bond, recharge, and renew. Imagine how life would be turned upside down if you no longer had a home. Imagine the endless cycle of imposing on family and friends because you couldn’t afford a place of your own. Imagine what it would do to your marriage, your children, your job, and your outlook on life. As families are strengthened, so is our community.”

- March 2022: Douglas Community Association
- The Douglass Community Association, named in honor of Frederick Douglass, was founded in
1919 to address the social, recreational, and cultural needs of African American soldiers stationed at Fort Custer and their families returning to segregated Kalamazoo from World War I.

- As the leading disability social services organization in Southwest Michigan, their goal is to help foster a community where people with disabilities are able to participate fully in
everyday life with equal opportunities and self-determination. They also assist organizations, businesses, and government agencies to understand their rights and responsibilities under the Americans with Disabilities Act. They provide workshops and onsite training, technical assistance and support in learning to be welcoming of people with disabilities as customers, clients, patrons, volunteers, or employees. Their goal as a disability rights advocate is to protect the civil and human rights of individuals with disabilities, and make sure that the laws put in place to protect them are vigorously enforced.

- Red Birth Green (RBG) provides accessible, full-spectrum reproductive care to the Kalamazoo area. Their Women of Color-founded and led team offers all-embracing community care for the modern age.
