SAVE the DATE! People’s Church Fine Arts Sale & Holiday Bazaar will be Saturday, November 19 from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.

It’s back! Saturday, November 19th will be the 20th Annual Bazaar, our all-church fun(d)raiser, welcoming all of our members, visitors, and friends. If you have helped or shopped, you know that this event fills the church and requires many hands. Most of our favorite artists and vendors have already confirmed and we expect some exciting new additions, too! Please ask your friends to plan to join you to “shop local” for one-of-a-kind gifts and, of course, People’s Specialties!

Due to COVID restrictions, there will be no café or white elephant this year, to provide more space and social distancing; masks expected.

This amazing event takes many hands. While the holiday season may seem a while off, our planning has already begun.

To get involved now, you can:

Sign Up for Pasty-Making Dates

No previous experience needed! Someone who knows his/her way around the pasties will be on hand for every session. Get to know other People’s people and learn to make our famous pasties which are frozen and sold at the Bazaar. Chef Bob Friedel will lead the pasty-making process. Melissa Emrich, our church administrator will help organize work crews. The first two sessions will be held Sept. 16-17 & Sept. 23-24! The third is announced for Oct. 7 & 8. You can sign up by visiting the bazaar table in the foyer or online here: PASTY MAKING.

More sessions to come in October! Keep an eye on church communications for those dates to be announced!

Swedish Limpa Bread with Martha Beverly

A sweetened rye with orange peel and anise seed. It’s wonderful toasted which brings out those flavors and great topped with cream cheese and a good orange marmalade. I do have a recipe for that to share, too! Maybe we can encourage others to make it…

The recipe was a wedding present from my mom’s best friend in 1965, and I have not shared it outside the family. Until now.

I’ve been making 40 loaves which sell out in less than 90 minutes, so clearly there is demand for this and it draws customers to our Holiday Bazaar. I’m 78 and want to recruit others to learn to bake this so that we can carry on this People’s Specialty SIGNATURE item. I have ordered the rye flour and will provide it to those who volunteer to make loaves for this year’s bazaar. Each batch makes 4 loaves.

Please sign up online here: SWEDISH LIMPA BREAD or on the gold sheets in the lobby to bake with me and take my contact card (you may also reach out to Melissa at for the contact information). I’ve designated 4 dates, 2 afternoons and 2 evenings in my Garden Home behind Friendship Village. We’ll bake, talk and sample and you can take a loaf home to enjoy!

Prepare Items for People’s Specialties

The foyer will be filled with “People’s Specialty” items. This is usually very profitable, as people look forward every year to purchasing your handmade jams, salsas, breads, frozen entrees, cookies, candies, and small handcrafted items (such as knitted items, small quilted items, woodwork, and photography notecards). With this month being prime time for fresh produce, please consider making extra of your favorite jam, salsa, and other recipes for our Specialties tables or get a head start on one of your favorite craft projects to donate. Please sign up either online (PEOPLE’S SPECIALTIES) or at the Bazaar table in the foyer to let us know what you’re planning on bringing!

Sign ups are now available to help with the assembling of the bean soup mix itself (sign up here: BEAN SOUP ASSEMBLY). The sign up is also available at the Bazaar table in the Foyer!

Specialty Workshop Leader Volunteer

Would you like to host a workshop to help teach other’s how to make your own People’s Specialty item? Sign up here: SPECIALTY WORKSHOP LEADER or at the table in the foyer of the church and a member of the Bazaar Committee with contact you to work out details!

Watch the Friday email and Facebook page in the coming weeks for announcements of more sign-ups for several group baking and cooking efforts to make more of our best-selling specialty foods!
