Rev. Dennis McCarty will explore “A Kinder, Gentler Atheism.” The relationship between atheists and spiritualists has sometimes been contentious. But does it need to be? Rev. McCarty, a self-proclaimed “gentle atheist,” will combine nuances in humanist, atheist, and spiritualist thought with a scientific worldview, to seek a common richness all can share.
Reverend Dennis McCarty interned at People’s Church in 2002-2003. He went on to serve the Unitarian Universalist Congregation of Columbus, Indiana. Since retiring from Parish Ministry in 2015, he has been their Minister Emeritus. He has written novels, nonfiction books, plays, and magazine articles as well as songs. (He occasionally presents a one-person version of his play, Servetus: the Radical Reformed Musical.) Right now he is putting the finishing touches on his latest book, Monuments: an Atheist’s Tour of Life, Strife, and Meaning. He blogs at the Thoughts from a Gentle Atheist website: revdennismccarty.com.
