We tend to think of Greek myth as charming, even poignant stories, while we see the Bible (even if we don’t like it) as central to America’s religious culture. Yet both canons were developing about the same time—and the Old Testament did not develop in a vacuum. The interplay between them makes for a breathtaking tour of Ancient Near Eastern religion and culture.
