Flower CeremonyWith Rev. Dave Johnson

On Rev. Dave’s final Sunday in the pulpit at People’s Church, he’ll offer a personal spin on salvation.  The focus is not toward an imaginary Utopia somewhere else or later on, but upon life-transforming opportunities that are in our very midst.  We’ll examine the wisdom of Reinhold Niebuhr: “Nothing worth doing is completed in our lifetime; therefore we are saved by hope. Nothing we do, however virtuous, can be accomplished alone; therefore we are saved by love.”  Rev. Dave will borrow from the wisdom of his mentor Stephen Jay Gould, with a story by T.H. White, and perhaps a congregational sing-along “I’ll Fly Away” (from “O Brother, Where Art Thou?”).  Board co-Presidents Sally Padley and Darryl Loiacano will join in formally closing Dave’s interim ministry at People’s Church.  We will also honor and thank outgoing Board members, the Ministerial Search Committee, and the Transition Team for their exemplary service to the church during 2014-2015.

Please bring a flower for our end of the year flower ceremony.  And please join us for a reception in honor of Rev. Dave Johnson following the service.
