On this Martin Luther King, Jr. weekend, we remember the life and legacy of Bayard Rustin. Rustin was a key behind-the-scenes organizer of the Civil Rights movement and played a key role in connecting that movement to Gandhian nonviolence. Because of he was an openly gay man and a religious pacifist, Rustin was rarely celebrated for his contributions to that movement. Today, we will tell his story and consider what it might have to teach all of us.
