January Special Collection

We collected $1119 for Open Doors as part of our January 12 Special Collection.  Thanks to everyone who contributed.

Special Collection for The Unitarian Universalist Association
Sunday, February 16

The UUA helps our church thrive. From religious education curricula to hymnals containing the songs we sing to advice for our bylaws committee to the conferences our youth love to attend to professional development opportunities for our program staff, so much of what happens at People’s Church is dependent on UUA programs, staff, and resources.

For the past few years, to balance our budget, People’s Church has paid only 25% of what the UUA considers our “fair share” contribution to our association. This special collection is a chance for us to move closer into right relationship with our wider association by closing the gap between what is fair and what we are currently paying. For more information about the UUA and its programs, please visit www.uua.org

Collecting Baby Blankets for Newborns

We are collecting new warm baby blankets that can be used to tuck around newborns in their car seats as they leave the hospital. Bronson’s Labor and Delivery nurses have noted that many families don’t have these kind of warm blankets and really appreciate it when they receive one. Small fleece blankets and other small thick blankets are needed. We have a box for collecting the blankets in the lower level entryway behind the Visitors’ Desk.

Refugee Resettlement Update

Molham (second son) has opened a new restaurant, Middle Eastern Appetite, with two partners from Syria and Iraq. The restaurant is located near WMU campus at the top of Howard Street hill on the southwest corner in a small strip mall: 2625 W. Michigan Ave. Please consider visiting the restaurant and telling Molham you are from People’s Church, and also spread the word to friends and family.  They only have about 3-4 tables set up for in-house dining, as most business is take-out.

Anyone is welcome to sit in on Social Justice Coordinating Committee meetings. The SJCC meets the second Saturday of each month at 10:30 a.m. in Room L1.
