A big thank you to all who donated to the Lincoln Elementary School Special Collection on September 15. We were able to raise $1,295 for the teachers and students.
Our next Special Collection will be on October 13. Douglass Community Association has a mission to create a culture of equity and inclusion that transforms the lives of Northside residents and beyond through effective, efficient and quality opportunities. Named in honor of Frederick Douglass, the DCA was founded 100 years ago to address the needs of African-American soldiers stationed at Fort Custer and their families returning to segregated Kalamazoo from World War 1. Throughout its history the Douglass Community Association has served individuals in the Northside neighborhood, as well as the greater Kalamazoo community as a center for social, recreational, and community development activities.
Some of the programs at DCA are G.I.R.L.S., Young Men of Promise, Boys and Girls Club, Summer Camps, Helen L. Fox Gospel Music Center, Meet Up, Eat Up, Loaves and Fishes, Michigan Works, NAACP, Rootead, Momentum, and many more. The Douglass Community Association makes a real difference in the local community. Learn more about the DCA at douglasscommunity.org.
