Open Doors Partnership: a team of eight church members donated their time,108 hours total, and skills to rehabilitate a one-bedroom apartment on Park Street for a new tenant: a grateful young mother who moved into her new home on August 26th.
Refugee Resettlement: People’s Church housed a two-week Summer Enrichment Program in July for 18 Syrian and African refugee middle school and high school students. This was a pilot program led by Neena Marion under the auspices of the Kalamazoo Refugee Resource Collaborative. In addition to housing the program, our church supported this effort with a Second Sunday Special Collection in May.
Lincoln School Partnership: As the school year gets underway, tutors are needed to help at Lincoln School. A special collection for Lincoln School will be held on September 15.
Community Social Justice Calendar: The calendar is available on our website at http://peopleschurch.net/faith-in-action/current-social-justice-content/#sjcccalendar. If church members know of community social justice events that they would like shared on the calendar, please email email@example.com and include the following information: name of the event, date, time and place, contact information of either a person, website or Facebook link.
Anyone is welcome to sit in on Social Justice Coordinating Committee meetings. The SJCC meets the second Saturday of each month at 10:30 a.m. in Room L1.
