Special Collection

The Social Justice Coordinating Committee was pleased to have the Executive Director of ISAAC, Charlae Davis, speak to us on Sunday, November 11, about the work we support through this community effort. We were inspired to give our Special Collection that day in the amount of  $1791.77.  Thank you from ISAAC.

Ministry with Community is our next Special Collection on December 9. This is one of our traditional yearly recipients, located on north Edwards St., open 365 days a year to anyone, regardless of belief or circumstance, “empowering people to make positive life changes.”  Kelly Henderson, Executive Director of MwC, will speak briefly that Sunday about their work.

Center for Transformation

Molly Fairbanks, George McCrea and Rick Johnson have been mentors with CFT for at least 10 years.  People’s was one of the founding churches of this faith based organization which supports returning citizens who serve their paroles in Kalamazoo.  Assistance is offered in two ways…there is a regular support group held from 1-2 every Tuesday afternoon at the First Baptist Church on Michigan Ave.  Everyone is invited to attend.  On the first Tuesday of each month there is a potluck lunch, and past parolees often attend to renew old friendships and provide updates on what’s happening in their lives.  Interested volunteers can become mentors to parolees wanting additional support.  This can be done on an individual or team basis.

Anyone is welcome to sit in on SJCC meetings. The Social Justice Coordinating Committee meets the second Saturday of each month at 10:30 a.m. in Room L1.
