Changes in the New Year

As we move into 2022, we are making a few changes to our RE offerings. Now that elementary aged kids are able to get vaccinated, we will be allowing them inside masked for the beginning of their class time together in room 9 just inside the back door.

In January, the 1st-6th graders will be exploring creation stories, life and death, cooperation and reptiles. After their opening rituals, joys & sorrows, story time and discussion, they will head outside for nature activities followed by play time so they will still need their warm winter gear. We are fortunate to have Chris Measzros as our storyteller for this class as he weaves an engaging tale!

Our preschool aged kids have not yet been approved for the vaccine so we are working to create some windblocks on their outdoor carport classroom with additional heating sources. The preschool/kindergarten kids may be able to come inside after their class session for playtime spread out in a few different rooms. Their classes in January will focus on learning about light, animals, families and snow.

The middle school OWL class is going great with 15 youth actively participating. Facilitators and guest speakers alike have been impressed with the level of engagement and great questions these youth are asking. They give us hope for the future.

Our high school bonfires have been a hit. The Sunday morning class is more modesty attended but each week the sharing is deep and meaningful. January small group sharing topics for 9-12th graders include:

1/9 – Authenticity
1/16 – Happiness
1/23 – Resilience
1/30 – The Most Important Things

I hope to see you all church!

Blessed Be, Diane Melvin, Religious Education Director
