There are so many opportunities for religious growth and learning as well as deepening connections for all ages at church this fall.
In RE classes our K-7th graders have learned about Adam and Eve, Noah, and Joseph. While we continue to explore Bible stories from a UU perspective, November brings opportunities to learn about the Exodus, the 10 Commandments, Ruth and Naomi, and David and Goliath. We hope to have your kids join us each week to explore these important stories together.
Our 8-12th graders have opportunities to visit both the liberal and conservative Jewish temples in Kalamazoo this month to complement their study of Judaism.
On Nov. 2nd, our 1st-7th graders and their parents are invited to participate in a church sleepover designed to connect kids with fun games and activities. After these sleepovers, new families often say that their kids feel like People’s is their church home—maybe because they know all the best hiding spots for hide-n-seek.
Last month 14 middle schoolers and adults went up to Mystic Lake YMCA to spend the weekend on retreat with other UUs from around the state in a beautiful setting filled with fun and meaningful activities.
Families have signed up to make pasties together for our church Holiday Bazaar on the weekends—deepening connections and being helpful all at the same time! And there are always opportunities for youth to help during the day of the Bazaar, especially in the Café.
We also have a complement of adult education classes for religious growth and learning including The Shared Pulpit class offered by Reverend Rachel and the Mindfulness Meditation classes I lead on the first Thursday of each month (except Nov. when it is on the 8th).
If you are seeking to make connections at People’s Church, we hope you are able to take advantage of some of these opportunities.

Elementary OWL and New Book Recommendation
While we are offering Our Whole Lives Sexuality Education Classes for K/1st Grades and 5/6th Grades this year, our RE library has a new book perfect for 8- and 9-year-olds about bodies, crushes, touching and feelings.
The language is very open and accepting of people of all genders and sexualities. With vibrant images, corny jokes and forthright dialogue, the information presented can help open conversations within families.
Since we regard parents as children’s primary sexuality educators, we want to assist families in assuring our kids are accurately informed and stay as safe as possible. If you have an 8- or 9-year-old, you may wish to find this in our library or order it for your home.
High School Youth Group – November 4
All 9-12th graders are invited to join in on the fun. Deepen relationships, play games, and have fun. Lunch provided in the kitchen after church, then youth group will meet from 12:45-2:30 in Room L2. We will meet on Second Sundays, December through May.
