Children & Youth Religious Education – We have an exciting lineup of programs for children and youth at People’s Church this coming church year.
Preschool – The Rainbow Connection
Our preschoolers will be using the seven UU principles to learn about justice, fairness, trust, responsibility and respect.
Kindergarten – 6th grades – World Religions
Hinduism, Taoism, Buddhism, Christianity, Judaism, Islam, Paganism and Unitarian Universalism will all be explored by these kids as they learn about the stories, rituals, gods and goddesses of these religious traditions.
7-8th Grade – Our Whole Lives Sexuality Education (OWL)
This year long program is the cornerstone of the OWL program which includes classes for Kindergarten through Adults. These middle school aged youth will learn about responsibility, communication, bullying, values and decision making skills.
9-10th Grade – Jedi Academy Coming of Age
This new Coming of Age program uses mindfulness and Star Wars as the instruments to help them meaningfully and thoughtfully “come of age.” These youth will discern and articulate their faith statements and share these with the congregation this spring in a Sunday service they plan and lead.
11-12th Grade – World Religions
Through a variety of field trips to various houses of worship, these youth will explore some of the world’s major religious traditions first hand. Making personal connections is one of the best ways to learn about other faith traditions to help dispel misperceptions and build bridges of understanding and respect.
If you have a youth interested in 7/8th grade OWL or 9/10th grade Coming of Age and didn’t receive a letter in the mail, please contact me to add your student to our roster.
I’m looking forward to another wonderful year together filled with religious growth and learning for all ages in our congregation.
Blessed Be,
Diane Melvin, Director of Religious Education
