Over the summer and into the early fall we have begun implementing our new model addressing racism/antiracism transformation within People’s Church. The former ARAOMC Committee and newly named Dismantling Racism Within People’s Church Implementation Team met for their annual retreat on September 6th. We shared a meal and spent time in deep conversation continuing to develop our authentic relationships and shared our hopes and intents for this work for the upcoming year and beyond. The newly formed Dismantling Racism Within People’s Church Steering Team has met twice since August and will continue to meet monthly. In that group we are beginning to develop our relationships as individuals and team members and are forging a path to work together to help the church and its’ members and friends live into their highest antiracist ideals.
Members and friends of People’s Church have continued to express an interest in having a time to go more deeply into specific topics of racism/antiracism. On Sunday, October 27th from 12:30-2:30 we will be having the first discussion in a series of monthly discussions that will be guided over time by those of us who attend. We will always hover around a deeper understanding of our individual and organizational transformation. We will work together building our relationships, skills, language, and ability to speak honestly with each other about very difficult topics.
Please join the Dismantling Racism Within People’s Church Implementation Team and other People’s people in Room 19 as we begin to explore racism/antiracism within ourselves and our institutions. All members and friends are invited. We will be setting the day and time of future monthly meetings at this meeting. If you can’t be at this first meeting and are interested in attending future discussions, please contact Nadine Godin-Nassaney with your availability.
Feel free to bring a brown bag lunch and indicate if childcare is needed. Light snacks will be served. Please sign up on the sheet in the foyer or on SignUpGenius using this link:
Watch for the topic of discussion for 10/27 on upcoming email blasts and announcements.
