Cool Congregations

Thanks to Cybelle Shattuck, we were introduced to Cool Congregations, a program of Interfaith Power and Light, which rewards congregations for becoming carbon emission responsible. Their Challenge rewards congregations for reducing their carbon footprints and for encouraging their members and community to do the same.

Many of you might have noticed changes to our building. We’ve installed solar panels on the roof, we’re in the process of insulating the classrooms and offices, we’ve installed motion detector lights in the hallway, we’ve switched to LED lights and we installed a two-lead Electric Vehicle Level 2 charger in the upper parking lot. What you don’t see, is the insulation around our water lines, the new venting in The Commons, and the improvements to our hot water and HVAC systems. With all of these changes, we will be applying for the Blue Medallion Certification (20% CO reduction) this year.

We are still in the process of insulating the classrooms and offices, so if you would like to help, contact Tom Hackley. Also if you have additional suggestions on how to reduce our emissions, the Green Sanctuary Committee would love to hear from you!
