Please save the date and plan to participate! On Saturday, November 18, we will hold our 16th annual, all-church fun(d) raiser. Everyone is welcome to come and we look forward to seeing our members, visitors, and friends. Preparations have already begun, and we could use your help. Our goal is to repeat, or even surpass our stellar performance of last year where we hosted 700 customers, made more than 800 pasties, and raised over $15,000 to help our church budget.

This event fills the church, providing a venue for over 30 local professional artists, which encourages people to buy local for their holiday gifts. It also builds relationships both in our church and with the community. It truly is an amazing event that couldn’t be accomplished without many hands. Here’s how you can help right now:

Prepare Items for People’s Specialties – Our major “department” at the Bazaar is called People’s Specialties. It takes place in the foyer and features your handmade jams, salsas, breads, frozen entrees, cookies, candies, and small hand-crafted items (knitted items, small quilted items, photography notecards, etc.). If you can make these items ahead of time, now is a great time to start, especially while fresh produce is plentiful! If you need inspiration we will soon be posting lists of popular baked goods and frozen entree items that are needed. Reverend Rachel and Chef Brian will be holding work parties soon, so keep an eye on the Friday e-blasts for your chance to sign up.

Sign Up Now for Pasty-Making Dates – You don’t need to be a skilled chef to help here! This is a great way for more People’s People to get to know each other.  We will be making about 800 pasties to freeze and sell at the Bazaar. Bob Friedel will once again lead the work of making pasties. Chris in the office will be helping organize work crews. The first pasty sessions will be held the weekend of September 15th. Someone who knows their way around the pasties will be on hand for every session so dough not let your lack of experience keep you away. You can sign up by visiting the Bazaar Table in the foyer, calling or emailing Chris, our church administrator, at office@peoplechurch.net, or by using the signup genius link on the website.

White Elephant Contributions – If you can brave the wilds of your closets and basement shelves, please rescue those very nice items (no clothing, furniture, or ski equipment) that you can clean up, set aside, and donate in hopes of finding new homes in our White Elephant Sale at the Bazaar. Housewares, decorative items, and kids’ toys have been especially popular.

So, head to the market for fresh berries and tomatoes to make jars of jams or salsas, find neglected treasures to turn loose, and watch for the sign up to make pasties! All of it helps. There will be more details about further ways to help as well as all the different jobs that are available on the day of the Bazaar coming soon.

Contact Chris Schleuder in the office or email Rochelle Habeck Hunt at habeck@chartermi.net if you want to get more involved. The next meeting of the Bazaar Steering Committee is Wednesday night, September 13th at 6:30.
